Home: What Happens When We Come Together
This film is about an extraordinary group of people in Central Florida who have identified a rising problem (homelessness) in their community. Over talks and meetings spawned by the Emmy Award Winning 60 Minutes Special from 2011, apartment owners connected with local organizations to pool their professional influence and business networks in an effort to create a holistic approach to solving homelessness one family at a time.
Florida families who are homeless can apply for a hand up out of their situation by applying for housing through the New Moves Partnership. New Moves Partnership makes use of the area’s vacant apartments and offers approved families lowered lease expenses. Once in a stable home, New Moves Partnership connects the families with Westgate Foundation who helps them gain paid employment through the local hospitality industry. Other services available from the coalition include transportation, furniture and household items from local non-profit organizations. Additionally, families must agree to 12 month side-by-side case management including financial counseling to educate themselves about how to manage their budget and keep themselves from homelessness in the future.
This film is a story about how real problems in our world can be solved by a community that is aware and engaged. We hope you will share this film as New Moves Partnership is working to spread throughout the U.S. via the national apartment industry.
